* Go in with a neighbor.   As a carpet cleaner, I can tell you tat driving time takes a big chunk out of the profit margin. You have fuel costs and down time which add up, big time. See if your neighbors need their carpet cleaned and then ask your carpet cleaner for a discount if you both clean it on the same day. Most carpet cleaners will be willing to do so.

* Move your furniture yourself.    Moving furniture takes time and thus, cuts into the profit margin. Ask your carpet cleaner if they will give you a discount if you move all of your furniture ahead of time. Just make sure that yo actually do it before they arrive. You do not want to be trying to move furniture when they are working, this will not save them time at all and will actually be more of a hassle for them.

* Clean during the off season.    The beginning part of the year is actually the slowest time for carpet cleaners. Cleaning your carpet in late December, January or February can save you money because that is when the best price specials will be going on.

* Skip some of the house.   Who says that you need to clean everything all at once. If you are low on money and need to save some money, just clean a few of your higher traffic rooms this time. Rooms like bedrooms and formal livings do not need as frequent of cleanings.

Most carpet is dyed after it is made. This means that the color does not run all the way through the fiber. Instead it comes clear and is then etched to accept a dye. Bleach will remove this dye. So, if you use bleach on one of these carpets you will end up with a bleach spot and will have to have it professionally repaired.

There is one exception to this rule on bleach and that is Olefin carpet. Olefin is solution died which means that the color runs all the way through the fiber. This means that it can not be bleached. Still, I do not like the idea of using bleach on a carpet and feel that you should only use products designed for a carpet.

It cleans better.  This is the number one reason to use a steam cleaner. You just can not beat 200 plus degree heat to get your carpet cleaned. Hot water makes chemicals more effective and can literally melt away greasy and oily stains. Couple this with the powerful rinsing action of steam and hot water extraction systems and you get a powerful cleaning method.

It is recommended by mills.     Steam carpet cleaning is recommended by most mills. This means that in some cases, using a method other than steam cleaning can actually void your carpets warranty. Check with your carpet manufacturer to see if steam cleaning is recommended or required.

It is safer.    Many of the dry cleaning methods on the market depend on solvents and petrochemicals. When you use these chemicals and have no real rinsing step, you can have a health issue. This is particularly true with those who are chemically sensitive.

Review Services     There are plenty of review services on the internet that rank companies. These include such places as Yelp, Google Places, Judy’s List and Angie’s List. here are more, but these are some of the biggest websites. When looking at these websites, you must keep in mind that it is easy for companies to post fake reviews on most of them. Because of this, you should use caution with companies whose reviews are too good to be true. It is much harder for companies to game Angie’s List, but this website will cost you to join.

Search Engines     You can also use search engines to find out which companies truly are top rated. Do a search for their name on search engines and see what pops up. Throw in some keywords with their name like reviews or complaints to further refine your results.

BBB     The Better Business Bureau can be another source of information on companies. They track companies and complaints against them. Do keep in mind though that the BBB is a for profit organization.

Host carpet cleaning, like most other forms of carpet cleaning, starts with dry soil removal with a thorough vacuuming. Dry soil removal is particularly important with this method however. After a thorough vacuuming, the cleaning technician will sprinkle a powder on the carpet. The powder is semi-moist and contains a detergents, some water and some solvent. They technician will then agitate the powder using a machine with counter rotating nylon brushes. The powder is then allowed to dry and is vacuumed out of the carpet. The theory behind the process is that the powder acts like millions of tiny sponges, wiping your carpet clean.

The Host process has several advantages over other cleaning methods. For starters, it leaves the carpet very dry. You can typically use the carpet in just minutes after a cleaning. It has also been shown to reduce the amount of dust mites in a carpet dramatically. Host is very proud of this fact and it is on quite a bit of there literature. Finally, this process has the benefit of being able to safely clean some materials such as Sisal which are easily damaged by water.

Unfortunately, this process also has a number of disadvantages. The biggest one is the lack of a thorough rinse step. This limits the amount of soil that can be removed with cleaning.  This makes it a poor choice for heavily soiled carpets. With this process, the powder can also be difficult to thoroughly remove. You will be finding the powder in your carpet for weeks or months after a cleaning. Finally, this process, because of the lack of water, depends on solvents quite a bit. The odor from the cleaner can be a little offensive to some customers.

Because of the advantages and disadvantages of this product, it makes an excellent commercial cleaning process. It is perfect for places like airports and hotels that are cleaned often and can not handle carpet down time. It is a poor choice overall for residential applications because of the low soil removal capabilities.

Because the carpet had actually stretched out, some of it will have to be removed. To do this, the carpet is detached from the tack strip that holds it onto the floor. Then, a suitable amount of the carpet is cut off using a razor knife. Finally, the carpet is laid back down and re-stretched onto the tack strip. The result is a carpet that is stretched completely out and is free of wrinkles or creases.

If you think that the above procedure sounds difficult, you are right. It does take some experience and skill to get the carpet back down correctly and looking proper. In addition to that, you must also have some specialized tools such as a carpet stretcher, carpet knee kicker and a seaming iron. Because of this, it is recommended that you do not try to stretch your carpet by yourself. Unless you have experience in these types of repairs, it is beyond the scope of the do-it-yourselfer.

Locating a carpet repair service luckily is not very difficult. In fact, most carpet cleaners offer carpet repair and stretching services. So, just call up your favorite local carpet cleaner and find out if they offer carpet stretching. They probably do and can perform this work for a nominal charge.
