Methods used by Carpet Cleaners Steam,
shampoo, dry cleaning. With the variety of methods out there, how do you
choose? Each janitorial companies method has its pros and cons but the
main factor in any cleaning is the operator. Having a skilled and
dedicated carpet cleaning company is the most important factor. A
good technician will leave you with a clean carpet no matter which method
they use. Having said that, we'll discuss the options.
Steam (Hot Water Extraction)
This is the most commonly used method in the cleaning industry. The
carpet cleaner will either bring a portable unit into your home or
will use a "truckmount" which is a machine mounted in their van. Either of
these machines are good although a truckmount will usually provide higher
heat and greater vacuum. A cleaning solution is applied to the carpeting
and allowed to dwell. It is then rinsed with either clean water or a rinse
solution. Average drying time is between 4-8 hours.
Bonnet
In this method the carpet cleaning companies apply a solution to the
carpeting and allow it to dwell. The technician will then extract this
solution with absorbent bonnets using a rotary floor machine. The bonnets
used are usually cotton which are highly absorbent and leave the carpet
just damp. Average drying time is between 1-2 hours.
Dry Powder
The carpet cleaners apply a slightly moist powder to the carpeting and
agitate. The powder is then vacuumed up along with soil that has been
absorbed by the powder. The powder can be a fully synthetic material or an
all natural powder made from corn cobs. Average drying time is under 1
hour.
Shampoo
In this method a solution is applied to the floor covering and
agitated. The cleaner absorbs the soil and is left in the carpet to dry.
The cleaner becomes brittle when dry and will break away from the fiber
and be removed when the carpet is vacuumed. This process is also known as
encapsulation. Average Drying time is 1-3 hours.
Dry Foam
This process is similar to Shampoo cleaning however the company applies
a cleaner product in the form of a thick foam. The foam cleaner is
agitated allowing it to absorb the soil and then vacuumed out of the
carpeting. Average drying time is 1-2 hours. |
